Last night and last shots of my spring leave…

When the cold winds come to find you
Blowing down from the top of the high rise
I'll come and take you back down to Soho
Away from all those mad men's eyes.

Spring in London!!!

The light was going out, the moon was dying
The night was turning to a fine Spring morning
The dogs were barking and the kids were shouting
The sun was splashing in a crystal fountain

The Coffee Day. Lithuania’s people aren’t used to drinking coffee etc. outside. So I’m always very happy in big European cities to take some coffee to go. And to take pictures at once :)

The British Museum. It was a funny trip with my 8 y.o. nephew Tadas. I lost only my scarf and he was quite calm and almost fully accepted “DO NOT TOUCH”.

London by night is a wonderful sight.

„My love and I saw the sun leave the sky
Then we kissed in the fast-fading light
Most people say they love London by day
But lovers love London by night“

It’s the plain truth of Frank Sinatra

Royal London. I cannot imagine London without the vital spirit of British Royalty. It seems to be hidden in every stone and at the same time it allows the power of individual liberty to proceed.

“May she defend our laws,
And give us ever cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen.“

Some facts about Chiswick: “Chiswick is an extensive district of West London. The area is not entirely residential: Chiswick High Road is widely-recognised amongst Londoners as offering a significant variety of retail, restaurants, food outlets and expanding office and hotel space. Historically, Chiswick is noted as the former residence of the 18th century English artist William Hogarth (Everyday I passed over him at least twice! See my photos of Chiswick).” Moreover Chiswick has a great local community web site that can be the largest in Europe.

When I arrived in the UK it was raining of course. My sister picked up me from Gatwick Airport and we made our way to Chiswick, London. Ye, Deutsche Autobahnen and British Motorways have quite different logic. It applies to the road signs as well as in principle to the whole system of orientation in the public places. Can somebody lose his way in the Underground of Berlin? Maybe, only if he is very drunk. But is it easy to change the line at Hammersmith station? It’s the long-standing question. One thing is clear – you know beyond doubt you must KEEP ON THE RIGHT SIDE.

Vilnius is the city where the present touches the past in the very original and unusual way. And it seems in any area of this city…

London has Harrods and Berlin has KaDeWe. Vilnius has already something expensive too. It calls Grand Duke Palace:) O, Tempora!
akropolis

2006/03/14
Oh, money, the life-giving juice of society!
It brings us its blessings of every variety,
It softens the blows that lifetime delivers,
It favors the brave and it crowns achievers. [D.Kessel]

O, my gracious! Akropolis comes to Klaipeda...

For winter's rains and ruins are over,
And all the season of snows and sins;
The days dividing lover and lover,
The light that loses, the night that wins. [A.C.Swinburne]

The last winter days on the seaside...

After the opening of gigantic shopping centres like Akropolis, Arena etc. in the geographical centre of Klaipeda, the old town and downtown have become empty in particular in the evening. Nevertheless the city looks fine and at the same time so mysterious…

Today is a great holiday in Lithuania - Reestablishment of Lithuania's Independence. Therefore I went to the city and together with Silvija took some photos of festive Klaipeda. Spring is coming and our hometown looks beautiful… especially from above.
Lithuanian Railways

2006/03/10
It is said that so many Lithuanian have emigrated. But our internal trains are full of passengers as never before. The emigration processes are very well debated, but nobody speaks about internal migration. I think it’s better to ask ‘why he left his small town?’ than ‘why he left the country?’
